KUALA LUMPUR: Firemen were called in to help free a toddler who got his left foot jammed in a gap on an escalator in Suria KLCC.

KLCC Fire and Rescue Department station operations commander Che Shaari Abdullah said the three-year-old boy was on the escalator with his parents at the second level of the shopping mall when he somehow found his left foot stuck in the skirt of the escalator at about 7.40pm Sunday.

Eleven officers were deployed to help the crying child, and they were forced to use tools to pry open the metal steps in order to release the boy.

Officers freed the boy in less than 10 minutes, according to Che Shaari.

“He was wearing shoes. But you can get stuck in that kind of space if your feet are small and if you are not careful. We handed the child over to an ambulance after we got him out. His leg was injured.

“I advise parents with small children to be wary of their kids when they are out in public in order to avoid accidents like this,” said Che Shaari.
