Mali’s Corner | Known for its cafeteria theme and simple but delectable menu, Mali’s Corner is where you should head for an affordable meal or get-together session with friends. A regular-sized plate of the eatery’s signature Malay-style char kway teow (RM5.50) goes perfectly with a glass of iced Horlicks (RM2.60). Not in the mood for char kway teow? The restaurant’s nasi lemak telur (RM3) or nasi lemak ayam (RM6) will fill you up just fine too.
Little Oven Bakery | For a bakery that uses mainly Japanese flour, no preservatives, and low amounts of sugar in its products, Little Oven Bakery certainly does not disappoint in flavour and variety – and at highly affordable prices, might we add. Its moist Japanese chocolate lava (RM4.90) is not too sugary and erupts with the richness of chocolate, while its Japanese cheese cake (RM6.30) is light and fluffy without sacrificing its velvety texture.

Kedai Kopi Hwa Yuen | This eatery makes you want to savour a beautiful bowl of loh pan mee (RM5.50) on a sunny afternoon. Homey and unassuming, its breezy interior nicely complements the enjoyment of the thick, flavourful gravy and chewy noodles that are used in the loh pan mee. Each bowl also comes with a substantial serving of squid slices and juicy pork pieces. To wrap up, finish off your meal with a bowl of the eatery’s soothing luo han guo (RM1.30).
Fancy Mee Corner | Fancy Mee Corner needs no introduction amongst residents of Setapak. This eatery has been around for quite a while now, and is one of the area’s go-to places for noodles. A regular-sized bowl of the restaurant’s signature dried chilli pan mee with anchovies or fried fishcakes (RM6.60) goes well with a cup of jasmine green tea (RM3.20). Or if it’s something sweet that you want, opt for their decadent French toast with peanut butter (RM3.80).

Red Famous Food Court | As its name implies, this eatery is essentially a food court that provides a large variety of culinary offerings. Our favourite? The Sarawak kolo mee (RM5), which comes loaded with slices of tender char siew and servings of rich minced pork. It is also a good idea to indulge in succulent and flavour-packed fried dumplings (RM5) from the eatery’s QQ Taiwanese noodles stall! Then, wash it all down with a refreshing cup of warm Chinese tea (RM0.50).

Kopitiam Desa | From the outside, Kopitiam Desa does not look particularly extravagant – but its long queues of customers are testaments to its reputation. Patrons flock to this eatery not only for its affordable meals, but also for its traditional Chinese desserts or tong sui. Sai mai lou (RM1.90) and bubur cha cha (RM1.70) are two of their all-time crowd favourites. Both are light but rich, with a gentle sweetness that will not overwhelm their flavours.
