Jakoa deputy DG charged with accepting bribe

Nisra Nisran Angit, 40, pleads not guilty to three counts of bribery involving over RM74,000 five years ago.



KUALA LUMPUR: The Department of Orang Asli Development (Jakoa) deputy director-general (Development) was charged at the Sessions Court here today with three counts of bribery involving over RM74,000 five years ago.

Nisra Nisran Angit, 40, however, pleaded not guilty and claimed trial after the charges were read to him before Judge Allaudeen Ismail.

On the first count, he was charged with accepting RM34,600 from a businessman, Hamzah Sia, through a third party account belonging to Yusoff Othman.

He was alleged to have committed the offence at Malayan Banking Berhad at Lot 1.01, Ampang Park Shopping Centre, Jalan Ampang here on July 6, 2010.

On the second and third accounts, he was charged with accepting for himself a total of RM40,000, also from Hamzah and through Yusoff’s bank account at Public Mutual Berhad, Blok B, Sri Damansara Business Park, Persiaran Industri, Bandar Sri Damansara, on December 6 and 17, 2010.

Each charge under Section 165 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum of two years’ jail or fine, or both, if convicted.

Allaudeen allowed the accused bail of RM20,000 in one surety and ordered him to surrender his passport to the court.

The case was set for re-mention on December 8.

Deputy public prosecutor from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Aida Adha Abu Bakar prosecuted, while Nisra was represented by counsel Zamri Idrus.
