ALOR SETAR: A motorist was bashed up by a group of motorcyclists, who chased him for about 10km, after his pick-up truck rammed into a student’s motorcycle.
Police said the 25-year-old businessman had wanted to pull over at the roadside after the 1.25am incident in Kepala Batas yesterday.
However, he drove off, with the motorcycle still stuck to the front of his vehicle, upon seeing a group of motorcyclists riding fast, heading towards him.
The group caught up with the nervous businessman who, in his haste, knocked into two more motorcycles and a car at a roundabout in Pekan Tanah Merah.
They punched and kicked him, injuring his face, eyes and head.
His 25-year-old wife, who was also in the vehicle, watched helplessly until police arrived. She was unharmed.
A Facebook posting by an eye-witness has since gone viral.
The user posted pictures of the injured motorist and a huge crowd of onlookers.
The motorist, who is from Pekan Tanah Merah, was rushed to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital and later transferred to a private hospital by his family.
The student he rammed into was also sent to the same hospital with injuries to his mouth and finger, and bruises on both knees.
Kota Setar police chief Asst Comm Adzaman Mohd Jan said police were investigating the case under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
