Bellyful serpent: Baling District Civil Defence personnel showing the 80kg python that was caught from a bush at Kampung Kelian Dalam in Kubang.
BALING: A python was caught by villagers at Kampung Charuk Kelian Dalam in Kupang near here.
The slithery creature was found motionless after it was believed to have swallowed a pig or wild boar.
Baling District Civil Defence Department (JPAM) officer Mohd Faizol Ab Aziz said they received a call on the discovery at 1.30pm yesterday.
“Four of our personnel were sent to the village, and with the help of the villagers, they managed to catch the reptile,” Mohd Faizol said.
He added that the team took almost 45 minutes to remove the python from the swampy area.
“The snake weighs about 80kg and was six metres long.
“It was found motionless because its stomach was filled with food, believed to be a pig or wild boar,” he said.
Villager Zahid Talib, 45, said the animal was discovered at about 11am by youngsters who were trapping birds at a rubber plantation nearby.
“The boys informed me, and I went to check and saw the python,” he said.
“I then alerted the other villagers and the Civil Defence Department.”
The python will be handed over to the state Wildlife Department.
