Charred body found in Lumut is that of Datuk Seri abducted from Penang

BUKIT MERTAJAM: The charred body of a man found in Lumut, Perak, last Friday has been identified as that of Penang businessman Datuk Seri Law Yong Chow, 43 (pix).
Manjung district police chief ACP Tk Mohd Zailan Tk Ahmad Shah said doctors who conducted the DNA test identified the deceased from dental records.
Law's body was claimed by a male family member from the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital mortuary in Ipoh at 7am today.
The body was immediately taken from Ipoh to a crematorium in Berapit near here where a Taoist priest conducted funeral rites at 1.30pm.
About 15 family members, who attended the ceremony wearing face masks and dark glasses, left the crematorium as soon as the coffin was wheeled into the cremation chamber without speaking to the media.
All attempts to speak to family members were declined, while calls and text messages to Penang police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi were not returned at press time.
Law's family lodged a police report after he could not be contacted. He was last seen being bundled into a car when he left a foot reflexology centre near here on Jan 14.
When a badly burnt and decomposing body was found in Lumut on Jan 17, police obtained DNA samples from Law's relatives, to help verify if the body was his, as no identification documents were found.
Perak deputy police chief Datuk A. Paramasivam said police had classified the case as murder.
Law was conferred the Sri Sultan Ahmad Shah (SSAP) award which carries the title "Datuk Seri" in conjunction with the 83rd birthday of the Sultan of Pahang last year.
According to media reports, he was the chairman of a mining company and was involved in the tobacco industry before venturing into mining.
