SEREMBAN, May 24 — More than 1,000 people paid their last respects to Sister Juliana Lim at the Church of the Visitation yesterday. Lim died on Tuesday after she was attacked by a robber on May 14.
The funeral service was led by Archbishop emeritus Tan Sri Murphy Pakiam.
Those present included the Vatican envoy to Malaysia, Nuncio Archbishop Joseph Marino, and Archbishop emeritus Soter Ferdandez along with 25 priests and 80 nuns from various religious communities and clergies.
The hearse arrived at 11.30am from the Visitation Catholic Centre and the service began at 1pm.
Sister Marie-Rose Teng who was also attacked during the robbery, was present.
In her eulogy, Infant Jesus Sisters provincial Sister Celina Wong said Lim was a gift to her family, the church and the community.
“All we have now are memories, which are treasures to the heart and testimonies of life’s journey.
“This is the call for us to look into our hearts and gather our memories of love shared with Juliana,” she said.
She said Lim had touched the lives of those she had worked and lived with throughout her 47 years as a nun.
“I feel the pain of loss for Sister Juliana’s family and no words can express our shared feelings,” Wong said.
Marino, a representative of the Vatican, expressed sympathy to Lim’s family, her religious congregation of the Holy Infant Jesus and the entire community.
Marino said Lim's teachings went beyond doctrines, creeds, beliefs, customs and dogmas as well as beyond the confines of worship grounds.
“Sister Juliana has taught us that faith is ultimately an expression of love for God and our neighbours,” he said.
The funeral service ended at 2.30pm as the casket was brought to the Sikamat Christian cemetery.
