Man Dies In Crash After Driving Off In Police Patrol Car
MARAN: A 22-year-old youth, believed to be mentally unsound, grabbed a police revolver before driving off in a patrol car near the Chenor Toll Plaza here early morning today.
However, the suspect, who fired four shots in the air while trying to escape from being detained, later crashed his vehicle and died at the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh at 8am.
The incident unfolded at 12.45am when two police personnel approached the suspect who was spotted sitting alone on a motorcycle near the toll exit.
When one of them approached him, the suspect became agitated and tried to attack the policeman with an object which resulted in the police personnel to fall to the ground.
The suspect then snatched the revolver and ran towards the patrol car, which was left with the engine still running,
He drove away from the scene heading towards Pekan Awah here before crashing his vehicle some two hours later.
District police chief Deputy Superintendent Sulaiman A. Hamid said the victim succumbed to severe head injuries.
