KUANTAN: Pahang's Malaysia Cup winning team returned to a rousing welcome at the Darul Makmur Stadium here with some 1,000 fans gathered to hail their heroes.
The players were cheered by the supporters as they marched into the stadium and lifted the coveted Malaysia Cup which they won after 21 years.
A fan, R. Rajen, 47, who waited at the stadium with his friends since 2pm, said he was overwhelmed with Pahang's victory.
"I'm amazed with the commitment shown by two players, R.Gopinathan and R. Surenderan, who were willing to forgo the Deepavali celebration for the sake of Pahang's success," he added.
Another fan, Erwan Mat Lazim, 35, who watched the final against Kelantan at the Shah Alam Stadium last night, said decided to go to the Darul Makmur Stadium to greet the footballers before returning home as it was once in a lifetime experience.
The bus carrying the players arrived at the Darul Makmur Stadium at 7.30 pm accompanied by 30 superbikes from Shah Alam.
The supporters took the opportunity to meet the players for one hour and took pictures with them.
Meanwhile, Pahang Youth and Sports Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Johari Hussain, in a text message, said the state's official victory ceremony would be held at the Darul Makmur Stadium on Friday.
He said a concert and a football friendly two teams made up of Pahang selected players would be held to enliven the event. -- BERNAMA
