KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim congratulated Keir Starmer and the British Labor Party on their great victory in the United Kingdom (UK) General Election.

Anwar who is also the Finance Minister said he hopes to work with Starmer and his team to develop a new strategic relationship, built on inclusiveness, equality, mutual respect, people-to-people relations and a shared vision for the future.

Through postings on social media, the Prime Minister described the partnership between Malaysia and Britain so far as something lasting, intertwined through a long history and strengthened by close bonds
of brotherhood.

He explained that Britain's participation in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) widens the economic partnership between the two countries.

A functional five-power defense rule is also described as the basis for common security as well as enhancing regional stability and fostering closer defense cooperation.

The Labor Party led by Starmer won a majority in Parliament where it obtained more than 326 seats out of 650 seats, thus being able to form a government.
