Chinese badminton player collapses and dies on court

NEWS saddened the Chinese badminton camp when singles player Zhang Zhi Jie died while participating in the Asian Youth Badminton Championship (BAJC) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia last night.
The incident happened when the young player was playing against Japan in the group stage competition at 12.20pm.
Before the incident Zhi Jie was seen waiting for a service shot from the opposing player, before suddenly collapsing on the court.
The sad news was shared through a joint statement from Badminton Asia and the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI).
"Chinese singles player Zhi Jie collapsed on the court while playing. The tournament doctor and medical team then rushed to provide first aid.
"He was then rushed to hospital via ambulance, but died at 23.20 local time yesterday (Sunday)," said the statement.
Badminton Asia, PBSI and the Organizing Committee express their condolences to Zhi Jie's family and the Chinese Badminton Association (CBA).
"The world of badminton has lost a talented player," he said.
After the team event the competition will continue with the individual category competition.
