SEPANG: AirAsia X announced a new route to Nairobi, Kenya in Africa, which aims to fly more than 156,000 travelers annually.
AirAsia X Chief Executive Officer Benyamin Ismail said there was high demand for travel between ASEAN and Africa, especially to Malaysia.
"We are excited to announce Kenya as a new destination in our network.
"This expansion is in line with our founder's vision to make Asia a global hub that connects the African continent to Asean and beyond," he said during the launch of the new route at the AirAsia headquarters here, on Monday.
He said AirAsia's commitment to service excellence has ensured that it can offer more travelers from Kenya the opportunity to explore more than 150 destinations offered by the best low-cost airline.
"This development will play an important role in connecting Malaysia, Oceania, and Africa in an affordable and efficient manner.
"As we respond to increased demand for post-Covid flights, we look forward to flying more travelers. The future looks bright and promising, thanks to the support of everyone present here today," he added.
The first flight scheduled for November 15, 2024 will make AirAsia X the only low-cost airline in Malaysia to the African continent. Promotional fares start from RM471 including fuel surcharge, taxes and related charges.
Also present during the launch of the route was Tourism Malaysia Chairman Datuk Yasmin Mahmood.
