Two nipah crab traders who were arrested to help investigate the punching of the Penang City Council (MBPP) enforcers at the Jelutong Public Market here, have been remanded for two days starting today.
North East District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Razlam Ab Hamid said, the remand order against the two suspects aged 23 and 35 was issued by the magistrate to enable the police to conduct an investigation in accordance with Section 353 of the Penal Code.
"We obtained remands for two days, on the 10th and 11th of May, against both suspects and further investigations regarding this case are still ongoing," he said when contacted.Two nipah crab traders (red and orange shirts) were brought to the Penang Magistrate's Court to obtain a remand order.
Yesterday, the police arrested the two traders in question at 1pm after receiving a report from the MBPP enforcers that they had abused the traders during a business license inspection at about 9.20am at the Jelutong Public Market here.
Razlam said that the nipah crab dealer was said to have been warned before for not having a business license.
"However, there was a verbal argument and provocation before the trader acted aggressively and punched one of the enforcement officers in the face," he said.
