IPOH: Three traffic police officers were remanded for three days starting today to assist in the investigation regarding the act of asking for money from a tourist couple from the United Kingdom (UK) to settle a traffic summons on Jalan Simpang Pulai - Cameron Highlands, recently.

Perak Police Chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the three members of the Investigation and Traffic Enforcement Department (JSPT) of the Perak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) who were arrested were between 37 and 42 years old.

"The three of them have been remanded for three days starting today (Tuesday) for the investigation of the case under Section 384 of the Penal Code.

"The investigation was also conducted in accordance with Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988," he said in a statement here today.

He said the investigation papers related to the case were taken over by the Classified Crime Investigation Unit, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department and would be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor after it was completed.

"An internal investigation is also being carried out by Bukit Aman's Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) against the members involved. We also ask the victims involved in this case to come forward and provide cooperation so that the investigation can be completed as soon as possible," he said.

In the meantime, Mohd Yusri said the police looked seriously at the misconduct committed by the three members in question, and would not compromise with any member of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) who committed such acts.
