THE LEADERS of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States (US) have underlined support for Israel while calling for it to comply with international humanitarian law and protect civilians.
In a joint statement, the leaders of the countries said they wanted to see "a lasting political solution and peace" in West Asia.
The leaders will also use diplomatic efforts including with "key partners in the region" to "prevent the conflict from spreading."
The six countries also welcomed the release of two US prisoners held by Hamas fighters and called for the immediate release of all remaining hostages.
The statement was released after a phone call made by US President Joe Biden on Sunday night.
Other leaders who participated in the call were the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau; French President, Emmanuel Macron; German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz; Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni and UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak. - Agency
