KUALA LUMPUR: Police seized RM1.5 million worth of untaxed contraband liquor and arrested three individuals including a Vietnamese woman in two raids at Jalan Sungai Besi, Cheras here, last Friday.
Cheras District Police Chief ACP Zam Halim Jamaluddin said in the first raid, a team of officers and members of the Semenyih 4th Battalion General Operations Team (PGA) arrested a 44-year-old Vietnamese woman at a premises located on Jalan Sungai Besi.
"In the raid at 2pm, the police confiscated 108 boxes of liquor and 116 cartons of various brands of liquor estimated to be worth more than RM230,000," he said at a press conference at the Cheras District Police Headquarters here today.
Following the questioning of the first suspect, Zam Halim said the police had raided another premises in Jalan Sungai Besi and arrested two men aged 29 and 31, a local and a foreigner respectively at 3.30pm that day. same
"Police confiscated nine boxes of Corona Extra type liquor and 1,818 cartons of various brands of liquor estimated to be worth more than RM1.2 million, in addition to a Mitsubishi Fuso lorry.
"The remand of local suspects has been allowed for four days starting yesterday until Oct 3 while the remand of non-citizens has been allowed for 14 days until Oct 13," he said.
Meanwhile, Zam Halim said the investigation paper involving five policemen who were suspected of being involved in fleeing the public from a restaurant in Desa Petaling, last Tuesday, would be referred to Bukit Aman first.
He said this was because it involved senior officers and policemen and there were several other individuals whose statements needed to be recorded to complete the investigation.
"The police also need some time to review the transparency of the report made by the victim whether it really happened or not," he said.
Last Friday, the media reported that five policemen were among six individuals arrested after being suspected of fleeing a public from a restaurant and the victim claimed that he was run over by a group of men before being beaten at a location in Kuala Lumpur.
The case is being investigated under Section 365, Section 342 and Section 323 of the Penal Code.
