McDonald's Malaysia is a 100 percent Muslim-owned entity
Since the acquisition by Lionhorn Pte. Ltd. under the Reza Group company from Saudi Arabia in 2017, McDonald's Malaysia has become a 100 percent Muslim-owned entity.
KUALA LUMPUR: McDonald's Israel's act of donating food to the Zionist Regime's army is a private act.
According to McDonald's Malaysia (Gerbang Alaf Restaurants Sdn Bhd), the action is a free market and does not reflect the values or practices of the local fast food restaurant operator.
"McDonald's Malaysia is aware of the latest discussion on social media regarding McDonald's Israel.
"Unilateral decisions made by individual franchisees cannot be considered global actions, company policies or official political positions taken by McDonald's globally.
"The actions of McDonald's operators in Israel are an example of such individual actions and it is not a global decision and is not approved by any other local operator," said McDonald's Malaysia in a statement shared on its social media account, on Sunday.
On Friday, McDonald's Israel announced the fast-food restaurant was distributing free food to Israeli soldiers and civilians after Hamas fighters launched an attack.
Commenting further, McDonald's Malaysia said, it is important to understand that Gerbang Alaf Restaurants Sdn Bhd is a local operating company.
"Since its acquisition by Lionhorn Pte. Ltd. under the Reza Group of companies from Saudi Arabia in 2017, it has become a 100 percent Muslim-owned entity.
"Since then, McDonald's has donated zakat payments and continues to do so every year.
"Until 2023, we have contributed more than RM12 million in zakat payments to 14 states throughout Malaysia and support underprivileged communities," he explained.
McDonald's Malaysia also expressed its commitment in service and giving back to the communities where the restaurants operate.
"In addition, McDonald's Malaysia also employs thousands of local talents and invests in the local economy and community," he said.
