KUALA LUMPUR: Singer Jeryl Lee Pei Ling, 23, made the Malaysia proud when she was crowned champion of the TV reality program, The Next 202 in China, last Saturday.
Jeryl, who is from Pulau Pinang, shed tears of joy when she was announced as the winner and described the experience as beyond her expectations.
"It feels like a dream. Every time I feel like giving up, I tell myself to keep fighting, work hard and I can do it.
"This time, I can say with confidence that I succeeded in doing it. I will not disappoint you all," she said.
Jeryl described The Next 2023 as the best competition she has ever participated in.
She did not forget to express her thanks and appreciation to the coaches, choreographers and production team who continuously gave him encouragement when competing.
According to her, everyone has the right to achieve their dreams and should not give up on pursuing their dreams.
"Whatever you dream of achieving, be brave and go after it. Don't be afraid or give up hope easily.
"If I can do it, you can too," she said.
Her post about her win was posted on Instagram, receiving praise from fellow artists including Vanessa Reynauld, Choo Hao Ren and Priscilla Abby.
Jeryl began to engage in singing when she was eight years old.
She won the youth singing competition, Water Cube Cup China in 2014. Her name has become increasingly popular since 2016 after becoming a finalist in the Sing! China.
