Malaysia confirmed their quarter-final berth at the ongoing Sudirman Cup after a 5-0 demolition of minnows Egypt in their Group D match in less than three hours.

The national team were made up of a completely different line-up who edged past England 3-2 on Monday, as the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) opted to field a team of national back-up shuttlers.

The youngsters completed their mission in style and were barely out of their first gear in a victory that could be described as barely a leisure training session.

Mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Peck Yen Wei put the first points on the board with a 21-6, 21-7 victory over Ahmad Salah-Nour Ahmed Youssri in 20 minutes.

Next up was Ng Tze Yong, who also showed Mohamed Mostafa Kamel no mercy to finish off the men’s singles contest in 24 minutes, courtesy of a 21-18, 21-2 victory.

Eoon Qi Xuan also made quick work of Doha Hany in a 21-5, 21-7 win in the women’s singles for the 3-0 lead.

Fast rising men’s doubles pairing of Man Wei Chong-Kai Wun Tee was next to inflict more expected misery on the tiring Ahmad-Mohamed, who had already featured earlier, with a 21-7, 21-6 win.

Teoh Mei Xing-Yap Ling wrapped up the points with a 21-4, 21-9 win over Nour-Doha for the outright victory.

Malaysia wrap up their group campaign against Japan, who overcame England in their second group match, on Thursday in a quest to become group champions.
