SHAH ALAM: The Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) seized frozen beef, worth RM296,998.91, from Australia in a container at West Port, Port Klang, near here last Monday.
Selangor Maqis, in a statement today, said the seizure was made when its officials stopped the container during a routine check and found it containing 24,987.96 kilogrammes (kg) of frozen meat, but without valid import permit.
The case is investigated under Section 11(1) of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 (Act 728), which is punishable with a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or imprisonment for up to six years, or both, upon conviction.
