A former beauty queen Kohinoor pleaded not guilty to punching a policeman & using drugs (Video)



The former beauty queen did not admit to beating the police, using drugs

PETALING JAYA - A former beauty queen pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court here on Friday to two charges of punching a policeman and using dangerous drugs.

Kohinoor Damodaran Kaittiani, 29, made the confession after the charge was read before Magistrate Zhafran Rahim Hamzah.

According to the first charge, the woman was charged with using criminal force to intimidate a civil servant by punching a policeman, Corporal Sharularifin Sarmadan.

The offense was committed at Jalan Universiti here at about 3am on Thursday.

For the offense, she was charged under Section 353 of the Penal Code which provides for imprisonment for up to two years, a fine or both if convicted.

For the second charge, the accused was charged with using a dangerous type of drug 
tetrahydrocannabinol at the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (BSJN) of the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters (IPD) at about 2pm on the same date.

For the offense, the charge is submitted under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which is punishable under Section 15 of the same act which provides for a maximum fine of RM5,000 or imprisonment not exceeding two years or both, as well as supervision not less two years and not more than three years if convicted.

During the proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Lau Chia Xin suggested that the accused be given bail of RM5,000 for each charge.

However, the accused, represented by lawyer Datin Raj Preet Kaur, appealed for his client to be given bail at a low rate as her restaurant business had to be closed due to the current Covid-19 outbreak.

After hearing applications from both parties, Zhafran allowed the accused bail of RM2,000 for the first charge, while RM1,000 for the second charge and set October 6 for re-mention of the case.

In the same proceedings, Kohinoor's friend Quek Shen Tying, 33, also pleaded not guilty to the charge of using the same type of drug at about 2.15pm on the same date and location as the charge under the same section and sentence.

The court then allowed Shen Tying bail of RM1,500 and set October 1 for re -mention of the case.

On Thursday, the woman was arrested after crashing into a roadblock (SJR) and punching a policeman in an incident on the Federal Highway.

In the incident at about 2.10am, the 28-year-old woman was said to have acted aggressively and was believed to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhruddin Abdul Hamid said the suspect was driving the vehicle with a female friend from the direction of the capital towards Petaling Jaya.
