GEORGE TOWN, Feb 9 -- Police arrested two men and seized a pistol, seven live bullets and a police authority card in a raid on a hotel in Lebuh Victoria here to assist in investigation into an alleged extortion case and threatening to shoot an acquaintance.

Penang Criminal Investigation Department chief Rahimi Mohd Ra’ais said the suspects, aged 27 and 34, were picked up at noon after police received a report from a 57-year-old man who claimed that his son had received a death threat from the suspects.

“The father claimed that two men came to his house in Jalan Datuk Ismail Hashim, Bayan Lepas, near here, at 10.54 am yesterday. The suspects pointed the pistol and threatened to kill shoot his son, in his 30s, over what is believed to be due to debt issues.

“Investigations found both the suspects and the victim knew one another,” he told a press conference here today.

Police seized a Glock pistol, an ammunition magazine, seven bullets, a police authority card, two folding pocket knives and syabu weighing 0.9 grams from the suspects in the hotel room they stayed in during the raid.

Rahimi said the 27-year-old suspect, who is from Penang, had 11 crime records and drug-related offences and preliminary investigations revealed that the room rented by them has been used as a drug den since last week.

“Police also seized drug paraphernalia, a Toyota Altis vehicle used by the 34-year-old suspect to travel from Selangor.

“Both suspects also tested positive for methamphetamine and have been remanded for five days for further investigations,” he said.
