Hight Court changed Single Mum's 30 Day Jail Term for a Movement Control Order (MCO) Violation to the maximum fine of RM1000.00. Judicial commissioner Norsharidah Awang imposed the maximum RM1,000 fine on B Lisa Christina.
The court reviewed her 30-day custodial sentence imposed by a magistrate on April 21, 2020
B. Lisa Christina, 30, has filed the application for a revision on grounds that the jail time was “excessive” and “unsuitable” as she was a single mother with a six-year-old son who has to find income for her family. The application pointed out that two other offenders who were sentenced by the same court on the same day were given the maximum fine of RM1,000 and not a custodial sentence.
She had pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 6(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020, which carries a maximum fine of RM1,000 or six months imprisonment or both, if convicted. She committed the offence at a playground at Jalan SM 1, Taman Subang Mas in Subang Jaya at 4.45pm on April 12, 2020
Lisa Christina was represented by lawyer Datuk Rajpal Singh from Messrs Rajpal, Firah & Vishnu, on behalf of the Selangor Legal Aid Centre.
