Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman was forced to leave the PPBM gathering on Friday by climbing over a rear fence.
PETALING JAYA: The government has issued a stern warning against those who do not respect the law, following a mob intrusion at a gathering attended by Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, which forced the youth and sports minister to leave by climbing over a rear fence.
In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office said the government will not hesitate to take action against anyone.
This, it said, included those in states which did not respect the country’s laws as well as those that did not abide by the government’s instructions.
It said it viewed the incident involving Syed Saddiq seriously and condemned the mob’s rough and rude actions.
On Friday night, Syed Saddiq was forced to use the rear exit to leave a gathering in Johor after a crowd of about 200 youths caused a commotion, hurling abuse at him.
Among those with him at the dinner were his parents, Melaka executive councillor Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen, Puteri Wangsa assemblyman Mazlan Bujang and several other PPBM members and their families.
So far, police have detained three people in connection with the incident.
“The country has laws. The government follows the rule of law and everyone, without exception, must abide by the country’s laws,” the statement said without identifying the people involved in the mob.
The authorities, it added, must uphold the law transparently and strictly, and not compromise with anyone who does not respect the law.
“Only those who are part of the government have the right to give instructions.
“Even then, if the instructions contradict laws or the standard operating procedures, officers do not need to act.”
