PETALING JAYA: PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin (pic) has decided to take leave from her party positions until the disciplinary committee makes a decision on her reply to the show-cause letter issued to her, says her political secretary Hizwan Ahmad.

He further said that the Housing and Local Government Minister has also requested that the PKR disciplinary committee withhold their action pending legal actions being pursued against the Ampang MP by party secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution and Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, who is political secretary to PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"Zuraida has immediately decided to go on leave from her position in the party until the disciplinary committee has completed its proceedings against her.

"The letter has also requested that the disciplinary committee refrain from taking any action against the vice-president as there are two legal notices from Saifuddin and Farhash.

"This is because the legal notices have the same content as the show-cause letter issued by the disciplinary committee," said Hizwan.

He was briefing the media at a press conference held by Ampang PKR in support of Zuraida, who has come under attack in recent months over her open criticism of Anwar.

Hizwan said the request for the disciplinary committee to delay taking action against her pending the legal notices is in precedent of what happened to vice-president Rafizi Ramli, when he was the secretary-general in 2016.

"Rafizi was then being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and there was also a show-cause letter from the disciplinary committee on the same matter.

"At that time, the disciplinary committee had agreed to delay its actions until the agency completed its investigations," explained Hizwan.

The press conference was called to protest a WhatsApp message allegedly sent by PKR leader and Sungai Petani MP Datuk Johari Abdul, who allegedly asked that Kedah PKR not "entertain" Zuraidah when she visits the state.

On Jan 18, Zuraida was issued with a show-cause letter and was given 14 days to respond.

Zuraida was asked to respond to a list of issues including the content of a speech at a PKR gathering at Renaissance Hotel on Dec 8.

In her speech at the “Shared Prosperity Vision” dinner, the party vice-president claimed that Anwar had tried to convince her that it was deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali in the sex video that went viral in June 2019.

The dinner was organised by Azmin shortly after those aligned to his faction boycotted the final day of the party’s national congress in Melaka.

The party has, in recent months, been split into two factions, one supporting Anwar and the other supporting Azmin, ever since a sex video purportedly featuring the latter was circulated by a team allegedly led by PKR members from Anwar's faction.

Zuraida has openly sided with Azmin.
