-July 14, 2019 12:08 AMThe IGP, Abdul Hamid Bador, says several people have been arrested and released.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have identified those behind the distribution of a gay sex video targeted at Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali, and several suspects have been arrested, Inspector-General of Police Hamid Bador said.

He declined to identify them. “We have an idea about who is responsible, based on the phone numbers used. Several have been arrested and released,” he told reporters after attending a function in Setiawangsa here this evening.

“But I am not sure how many have been nabbed. We will arrest anyone, be it, politicians, members of an NGO or the general public if they are responsible for the distribution of the video. We will take action,” he said.

A former member of PKR Youth, Haziq Aziz, then an aide to a deputy minister, had openly admitted that he was one of the two men shown in the video.
He alleged that the other man was Azmin, deputy president of PKR. Haziq called on the police to begin investigations into Azmin’s alleged involvement in corruption.

Azmin has strenuously denied being involved and has said he would seek legal recourse to defend himself.

Hamid said police were narrowing down the suspects who were distributing the video via social media.

He also said that on Thursday, police handed over two investigation papers on the sex video case to the Attorney-General’s Chambers but they were told to gather other evidence.

“There are a few more things that need to be done, based on the instructions of the prosecutor. The AGC wants us to record more statements,” he said, adding that police needed to go back and forth to Sandakan, Sabah, which would take time.

When asked on the authenticity of the video, Hamid said that police were still awaiting the report from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.
