PETALING JAYA: The country’s largest body representing medical doctors has called for a thorough probe into the case of a specialist at a private hospital here who was sacked after he sent sexually charged messages and naked pictures to a patient.

The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) said the case involving the consultant psychiatrist, who was attached to the Thomson Hospital in Kota Damansara here, should be treated seriously.

“It is a serious allegation and anyone who commits a crime, the consequences of law must be followed,” MMA president Dr Gana Baskaran told FMT.

It is believed that the patient is a rape victim who turned to the psychiatrist for professional help early this year.

“That was the start of her nightmare,” according to a group of doctors who petitioned the Ministry of Health to take stern action against the doctor.

It said that the psychiatrist had replied to her that “sex is good, that he has a lot of sex, and that people should enjoy sex”, besides sending her pictures of his penis on WhatsApp.

“He called her saying that he is masturbating and asked her to do the same on the phone for him,” said an email by the doctors cited by FMT.

“He showed her a sex toy that he purchased for them to use, offered her ecstasy pills and kept on inviting her over to his house,” it added.

The same email said as a result, the patient suffered anxiety attacks, sleep disturbance and had even resorted to injuring herself.

Petaling Jaya police have confirmed that a report was lodged against the doctor, and that he was being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting the modesty of a person.

On July 15, Thomson Hospital sacked the doctor, an MBBS holder from Universiti Malaya, after suspending him on July 6.
