PETALING JAYA: Police General Operations Forces (GOF) have crippled two human trafficking syndicates with the arrest of 73 suspects.

Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Comm Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the Batalion 4 Central Brigade intelligence unit were responsible for the bust.

"On May 1, GOF personnel involved in Ops Nyah 1 near Tanjung Sepat spotted a boat approaching the beach before dropping off 25 people, believed to be illegal immigrants.

"Another boat was also seen dropping off 29 more people. We stepped in an arrested 54 illegal immigrants (44 from Bangladesh, 10 Myanmar nationals) and three Indonesian suspects believed to be the boat operators," he said in a statement Sunday (June 2).

"52 of the suspects were charged with Immigration offences while two others were deported because they were underaged.

"The three boat operators were charged under the Anti Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants Act," he said.

Meanwhile, on May 22 at around 6.30am GOF personnel on duty near an oil palm estate Sungai Judah, Pulau Carey spotted a van parked there.

"The men checked the van and found 3,100 cartons of contraband cigarettes.

"We seized the cigarettes and handed them over to the Customs Department for further action," he said.

Comm Acryl Sani said six days later at around 2am, his personnel on duty near the Tanjung Sepat orang asli cemetery spotted two taxi MPVs there.

"We chased the two vehicles and stopped them. Checks on both vehicles led to the arrest of 11 Myanmar nationals, two Bangladesh nationals and three locals," he said adding that the suspects were remanded for further action.
