Anwar: Allegations of plot to stop me from becoming PM 'baseless'

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has shut down talk about an alleged conspiracy to stop him from becoming the next prime minister, calling it baseless.
He said there was no basis to link Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Council of Eminent Persons head Tun Daim Zainuddin and PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali to such a plot.
Met after the proceedings in chambers before High Court Judicial Commissioner Faizah Jamaludin, Anwar reiterated there were no problems between him and Dr Mahathir, whom he is expected to succeed as prime minister in a few years’ time.
“I had advised Kapar MP Datuk Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid that such allegations (about a plot) are baseless and I told him not to repeat the statement.

Anwar was in court over his defamation suit against former Permatang Pauh Umno candidate Datuk Dr Mazlan Ismail, private broadcaster TV3, and Utusan Melayu (M) Berhad.
Mazlan and TV3 proposed to settle the suit out of court, Bernama reported.
Anwar was asked to comment on Abdullah Sani’s claim that Dr Mahathir, Azmin and Daim are among individuals conspiring to prevent Anwar from becoming the next prime minister.
Abdullah Sani made the allegations on Aug 12 while campaigning for Rafizi Ramli, who is contesting the deputy president’s post in the PKR polls.
On Sunday (Aug 19), it was reported that PKR had warned two candidates to stop bad-mouthing and making wild allegations against others in the coming party polls.
"We have issued letters to the two candidates and given them a soft warning to stop using harsh words and making wild allegations against others,” said PKR’s Complaints, Appeal and Discipline Committee chairman Dr Syed Husin Ali at a press conference.
Syed Husin refused to divulge the identity of the two candidates, saying their names would only be revealed if action was taken against them.
It is believed that one of two candidates is Abdullah Sani who is also PKR central committee member.
