GEORGE TOWN: An eight-year-old boy was stripped naked and chained at the stairway of his flat block in Paya Terubong for about five hours by his father for being naughty.
He was left at the stairway for so long that he had to relieve himself there.
A resident of the flats spotted the boy at the stairway when he came home on Saturday night and took photographs and a video which were subsequently uploaded onto Facebook.
Paya Terubong Village Security and Development Committee chairman Frankie Kee said he found out about the incident after the photographs and video went viral.
“I visited the boy upon receiving the news. He told me that he was chained from 10pm on Saturday until 3am as he had misbehaved..
“I warned the father, in his 40s, who initially refused to open the door, and told him that what he did was child abuse.
“He told me that he was a single father and the boy was his only son.
“He also pleaded for pardon and promised not to do it again,” he said when contacted yesterday, adding that a check on the boy showed no visible injuries.
Kee said he learnt from a neighbour that this was not the first time that such a thing had happened before.
“The father would threaten his neighbours when they tried to help the boy.
“I decided not to make a police report considering the condition of the family.
“But I’ve given my contact number to the neighbours and told them to call me should such a thing happen again,” he said.
