Sessions judge Ahmad Bazli Bahruddin delivered the sentence on Wan Zukarman Wan Omar, 23, after the accused pleaded guilty to raping the girl in a house at Gunong, Bachok, on Oct 25, 2013, at 3.30pm.
He was charged under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in jail and a whipping.
In mitigation, Wan Zukarman, who was unrepresented, said he was in love with the victim and had sex with her.
However, DPP Fahrul Razi Zainal Abidin pressed for a deterrent sentence, saying love is not a licence for an adult to have sex with a minor.
"As an adult, he should know it is wrong to have sex with a minor. He took advantage of the girl and said he did it for love.
"He also threatened the girl not to tell anyone about their tryst, which goes to show that the sexual intercourse was not consensual," he said.
When presenting the facts of case, Fahrul Razi told the court that the sexual escapade was exposed after the accused went to the girl's house by entering through the one of the windows.
"When he wanted to leave the house, he fell on the victim's sister who was sleeping in the same room.
"The sister screamed and the accused fled but left his handphone in the room.
"After questioning by the brother, the victim admitted that she had been having sex with the accused," he said.
He added that based on police investigations, the girl had been raped by the accused since she was 13.
