JOHOR BARU: The Cabinet is expected to discuss MyEG’s online renewal of permits for foreign workers at its meeting next week, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong.
He said he would be forwarding the complaints and views compiled from businesses and employers to the respective government agencies.
Some employers supported the online registration as they did not have to queue up at the Immigration Department counters, but others felt that the counter services were still needed, he said.
“We will study all suggestions before coming out with the best solution for all,” he told reporters at a Career and Postgraduate Expo here yesterday.
The online renewal system, which began on Jan 5 by MyEG (My E.G. Services Berhad), has led to diverse opinions especially its RM38 service charge for each worker.
SMI Association of Malaysian National president Teh Kee Sim said employers would also have to pay RM125 for the permit to the Immigration Department, besides the RM38 fee.
Thus, he said employers would end up having to pay twice.
He suggested that the Government abolish the RM125 charge or include it in MyEG’s RM38 service charge.
At another event, Dr Wee who is MCA deputy president said MCA would soon call up all party division leaders as part of its preparation for the next general election.
This would allow the party to be well prepared and put its election machinery in place, he said.
“The party’s 14th general election steering committee, led by president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, will call for a meeting with each division in the country to find out about their preparations and strategies,” he said.
He said that engagement at an early stage was important before coming out with a constructive plan to face the elections.
“As an example, the Chinese new village project is very successful.
“We conducted a survey with the villagers and they voiced their problems. They were very satisfied with the work carried out by the party,” he said after opening a Mersing MCA division leadership programme here.
