Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim arrived in Shanghai tonight in conjunction with a working visit to China from 4 to 7 November 2024, at the invitation of his counterpart Li Qiang to attend the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE).
The special plane carrying him landed at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport at 9.50pm local time.
The arrival of Anwar, who is also the Minister of Finance, was welcomed by the Malaysian Ambassador to China, Datuk Norman Muhamad and the Malaysian Consul General in Shanghai, Syed Farizal Aminy Syed Mohamad.
Also welcoming the Prime Minister was the Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia, Ouyang Yujing and Deputy Mayor of Shanghai and Party Secretary of Minhang District, Chen Yu Jian.

It is Anwar's third visit to China since assuming the post of Prime Minister of Malaysia in November 2022, with the first working visit to the republic being in March 2023 before continuing in September 2023.
During the working visit in Shanghai, the Prime Minister will hold a bilateral meeting with his counterpart, Li Qiang scheduled for 5 November to discuss bilateral relations following their meeting in Putrajaya on 19 June.
Anwar is also expected to deliver the keynote speech at the opening of the 7th CIIE tomorrow, with Malaysia being honored as the "Country of Honour".
He is then scheduled to inaugurate the Malaysia Pavilion and the Malaysian Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCCIM) Pavilion, including holding a meeting with business companies and holding a round table session with industry captains from China.
After a busy schedule in Shanghai, the Prime Minister will continue his two-day working visit to Beijing starting November 6, where he is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on President Xi Jinping.
In addition, he will deliver an open lecture entitled " Bridging Futures: Strengthening Malaysia-China Relations and ASEAN Centrality in a Shifting Global Order " at Peking University and visit the Huawei Executive Briefing Centre.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, the Prime Minister's visit to the republic is expected to strengthen strong bilateral relations in conjunction with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China this year.
For 15 consecutive years since 2009, China has been Malaysia's largest global trading partner.
In 2023, total trade with China will be worth RM450.84 billion (US$98.80 billion), accounting for 17.1 percent of Malaysia's total global trade.
Until September 2024, Malaysia recorded a trade volume of RM355.15 billion (US$76.72 billion).
In the first half of 2024, a total of 15 manufacturing projects were implemented with a total investment of RM1.2 billion (US$ 252.5 million).
