Faisal Halim splashed with liquid believed to be acid at Shopping Centre
KUALA LUMPUR: If previously, the country was shocked by the case of Terengganu FC (TFC) winger Akhyar Rashid who was injured in the head after being beaten and became a victim of robbery , today, Malaysia was also shocked by the incident of Selangor FC star player, Faisal Halim who was injured in the face and body are believed to be the result of being splashed with acid.
Through sharing on the X page from Fina Nasrom, the Astro Arena reporter informed that the incident happened at a shopping complex in Petaling Jaya.
Based on the photo shared to Astro AWANI , there are injuries seen on the player's face, head and back.
Selangor Police Chief, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed the incident and Astro AWANI will bring complete information after the media statement is obtained.
He informed that Faisal is currently being treated at a private hospital in Petaling Jaya and is now in a stable condition.
He added that his side received a report from the public regarding the case at 5.51pm on Sunday.
"The Petaling Jaya Police have received information from the public through the Emergency Response Services 999 call informing them that a national football player has been splashed with liquid suspected to be acid.
"The incident happened while he was at a leading supermarket in Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya," he said in a statement on Sunday.
He also asked members of the public who have information related to the case to contact the PDRM to assist in the investigation.
In the meantime, social media was seen sharing photos of the incident as soon as it went viral on Sunday afternoon.
The majority of them want the perpetrators to be arrested immediately and brought to justice.
In fact, many are also worried about the safety of the national players considering that it is the second case of attack in three days.
Meanwhile, through a post on the X page, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hannah Yeoh strongly condemned acts of violence against athletes.
"I strongly condemn violence against athletes. No violence in sports!
"I ask @PDRMsia to immediately take action against the perpetrators," he wrote.
Meanwhile, Selangor FC through a statement asserted that they take seriously the incident that happened to their winger, Faisal Halim on Sunday evening
According to him, his party will work with the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the authorities to carry out a detailed investigation to identify those involved.
Through a statement on Sunday, Selangor FC called on supporters and national football fans to give moral support to Faisal and his family.
"Selangor FC calls on supporters and football fans nationwide to pray and give moral support to Faisal Halim and his family and to respect his and his family's privacy at this time," according to the statement.

Faisal Halim, who was a victim of being splashed with acid yesterday, is understood to have been transferred to a hospital around the Shah Alam area.
Initially, Faisal received treatment at one of the hospitals in Damansara to treat his injuries before he was transferred.
The President of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin when met by the media last night informed that his side will work with the Deputy President of the Selangor Football Association (FAS), Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar to ensure that Faisal is in good health and receives the best treatment so that no seriously injured himself.
"After talking earlier with (Datuk Seri) Shahril, we hope that treatment will be taken as soon as possible (if surgery is necessary).
"Faisal needs surgery as soon as possible and we will make sure the best doctor treats Faisal," he said after visiting Faisal Halim at a hospital around the Damansara area.
In an incident yesterday evening, Faisal was the victim of being splashed with acid by an unknown individual after playing a go-kart at a famous shopping mall.
THE SUSPECT AIMED FOR THE FACE
"The individual did aim for Faisal's (Halim) face but he managed to avoid it.
However, he said, the situation would probably have been worse if the attacker's acid spray had hit Faisal's young son.
"That individual did aim for Faisal's (Halim) face but he managed to avoid it. If it hits the face, there is a risk of hitting the eyes and it is most likely that his career will end. If that happens, it must be more sad for Faisal.
"Maybe God wants to protect Faisal's family because his son was not near him (at the time of the incident) and his wife got acid slightly splashed on her hand.
"The individual who was riding a motorcycle with a face covering also managed to say 'good luck' before splashing acid and running away," said the source.
IN STABLE CONDITION
Faisal Halim, who was splashed with acid while at a leading supermarket in Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya this afternoon, is in a stable condition.
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said Faisal is now being treated at a private hospital in Petaling Jaya.
According to him, the police have now started an investigation under Section 326 of the Torture Code, namely intentionally causing serious injury.
If convicted of a crime, it may be punished with imprisonment which may be up to 20 years and may also be subject to a fine or punishment.

Meanwhile, Selangor State Exco of Youth, Sports & Entrepreneurship, Najwan Halimi, said that Faisal experienced second-degree abrasions in several parts of the body, namely around the neck, shoulders, arms and chest.
