Husband kills wife, tries to sell meat to village residents

A man in West Java, Indonesia killed his wife before cutting her body and offering the meat to sell to residents of his village.

This horrific act was carried out by Tarsum, 41, against his wife, Yanti, 40, in Sindangjaya Hamlet, Cisontrol Village, Rancah District, Ciamis Regency in West Java on Friday.

Approximately three days before the heart-wrenching tragedy, Tarsum, who also sells goat meat in the village, was said to be under pressure, believed to be due to financial reasons and was often visited by debt collectors.

According to Ciamis police spokesman, Akmal, the murder took place on a village road near the suspect's house in Cisontrol Village, Rancah District, Ciamis Regency, on Friday at around 7.30 am local time.

"Our officers received reports from local residents and rushed to the scene, where the body was found with its hands and feet cut, while the body and head were still together.

"The suspect was successfully detained and taken to the Rancah police station and so far, the suspect is seen as calm and stable, however at this time the police do not yet know the motive for the murder.

"Several pieces of evidence, such as the knife and wood that Tarsum used to commit the murder, were also found when the body was taken to the hospital for post-mortem surgery," he said.

The murder shocked local residents because the suspect was said to have tried to sell his wife's flesh, which was brought in a container, to villagers.

The village head, Yoyo Tarya, said that he was also offered the meat by Tarsum.

"At first, I didn't know there was a murder. Not long after that, I heard Tarsum's voice offering his wife's flesh for sale, saying 'buy Yanti's meat, buy Yanti's meat'. So, the meat was taken around," he said.

Yoyo then reported the crime to the authorities, who immediately filed a suspect case.

Meanwhile, several other witnesses said that the victim was beaten with wood before being cruelly killed and his body thrashed in pieces in the middle of the road, witnessed by several stunned villagers.

"According to information from other witnesses, murder occurred if the victim wanted to go to the mosque and the suspect was suspected of hitting and killing the victim using wood.

"This incident occurred on the street, not at home. The perpetrator ran into the house carrying a knife and cut up the victim, separating the legs and arms," he said.

Yoyo added that so far Tarsum had never caused any problems, either within the family or the local community, in fact he was still selling goat meat the day before the murder took place.

He said, three days before the incident, Tarsum was under pressure and reportedly tried to kill himself by hitting his head against a wall, after sending his child to be looked after by a neighbor. - AGENCY
