SINGAPORE: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim and Raja Permaisuri Agong Raja Zarith Sofiah arrived in Singapore today for a two-day State Visit to the republic.

The State Visit is the first since His Majesty ascended the throne on Jan 31 last and at the invitation of Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

Sultan Ibrahim and Raja Permaisuri Agong departed from Istana Besar, Johor at 9.45am by car accompanied by two Ministers Escorting, namely Transport Minister Anthony Loke and Singapore's Foreign Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan.

His Majesty's departure was accompanied by the Malaysian High Commissioner to Singapore, Datuk Dr Azfar Mohamad Mustafar.

Sultan Ibrahim and Raja Zarith Sofiah who entered Singapore via the Johor Causeway and arrived at the Istana for the National Welcome Ceremony at 10.45am were greeted by Tharman and his wife, Jane Ittogi Shanmugaratnam.

The President of Singapore then accompanied His Majesty to inspect the guard of honor at the Ceremonial Plaza, Istana.

As soon as the National Welcome Ceremony ends, Sultan Ibrahim will hold a meeting with Tharman before receiving a courtesy visit from Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong who will leave his post on May 15.

In the evening, Sultan Ibrahim and King Zarith Sofiah will go to the National Dinner hosted by Tharman at the Palace.

The second day of the State Visit on Tuesday will begin with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong scheduled to receive Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong, followed by a visit to the Parliament building.

At the same time, the Raja Permaisuri Agong agreed to visit a women's and children's hospital here.

Before leaving for Malaysia, His Majesty was both scheduled to see the development of the Rapid Transit System Link (RTS Link) station project.

RTS Link is a commuter rail project of approximately four kilometers with two stations, one each at Bukit Chagar, Johor Bahru and at Woodlands North, Singapore.

Sultan Ibrahim on 22 Nov 2020 agreed to officiate the Ground Breaking Ceremony of the project.
