KUALA LUMPUR: Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri (Hal Ehwal Agama) Datuk Mohd Na'im Mokhtar telah dibenarkan pulang ke rumah selepas menjalani pembedahan di Hospital Putrajaya.

Mohd Na'im yang sebelum ini menjalani pembedahan membuang batu karang dari kelenjar air liur berkata beliau akan meneruskan rawatan dan terapi di rumah.

"Saya merakamkan ucapan terima kasih atas segala khidmat dan jasa baik yang diberikan oleh warga kerja Hospital Putrajaya terutamanya kepada doktor dan jururawat yang merawat saya sepanjang menjalani rawatan di sini.







"Semoga Allah merahmati semua warga kerja petugas barisan hadapan yang berkhidmat dengan tulus ikhlas mengharapkan reda Allah jua," katanya menerusi status dimuat naik di Facebook hari ini.

Mohd Na'im yang menerima rawatan di hospital itu sejak beberapa hari lepas, turut menerima kunjungan Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim pada Jumaat lepas.

The couple, aged 42 and 40, was detained by a squad from  the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ), at a Ramadan bazaar in Kuala Selangor, at 7.15 last night.

After being detained, police took the suspects to their residence, also in Kuala Selangor, before finding a gun in a backpack in their Honda Jazz car.

According to sources, the male suspect is believed to be responsible for providing six pistols to Israeli male citizens who entered the country using French passports.

It is understood the couple will be detained today for further investigation.

Police also arrested a local man in Cameron Highlands, Pahang, who  is believed to be the driver  to the  Israeli man since he entered the country on March 12.

At this time the police are still carrying out investigations to identify the main motive of  Israeli man entering this country and  having six pistols and 200 bullets.

Last night, the IGP, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, at a media conference revealed the detention of a 36-year-old Israeli suspect at a hotel on Jalan Ampang, last Wednesday.

He reportedly said, after questioning, the suspect claimed he came to this country to look for an individual who was also a citizen of his country to kill, allegedly over family issues, but the police did not believe the suspect.

NIBONG TEBAL: Guru wanita yang didakwa mencabul seorang pelajar lelaki dalam kes tular baru-baru ini, direhatkan sehingga siasatan kes itu selesai.

Menteri Pendidikan Fadhlina Sidek berkata guru wanita itu, perlu mematuhi sepenuhnya proses siasatan kes itu yang dijalankan oleh pihak polis terlebih dahulu dan kemudiannya Kementerian Pendidikan (KPM).

"Ketika ini kami (KPM) mengambil pendekatan untuk melindungi anak-anak kita sepenuhnya, jadi guru itu tidak ada langsung kaitan atau pun akses kepada para pelajar, dia direhatkan sehingga siasatan selesai.

"Dia kena mematuhi sepenuhnya proses siasatan terlebih dahulu, jadi buat masa sekarang ini siasatan polis dan dakwaan, barulah kita boleh ambil tindakan di peringkat KPM," katanya kepada pemberita selepas Majlis Buka Puasa bersama Ahli Parlimen Nibong Tebal di Masjid Daerah Seberang Perai Selatan, di sini malam ini.

Pada majlis itu, Fadhlina yang juga Ahli Parlimen Nibong Tebal turut menyampaikan sumbangan kepada 21 buah masjid dan 56 buah surau, membabitkan peruntukkan RM140,000.

Media sebelum ini melaporkan, KPM akan mengambil tindakan sewajarnya terhadap guru wanita yang didakwa menjalin hubungan dengan pelajarnya yang berusia 17 tahun, selepas siasatan polis selesai.

Terdahulu Ketua Polis Daerah Sepang ACP Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof dilaporkan berkata pihaknya telah merakam keterangan guru wanita berusia 37 tahun itu.

Ibu mangsa membuat laporan polis pada 12 Dis lepas, mendakwa suspek mencabul anaknya ketika mengulang kaji pelajaran di perpustakaan.

The Kuala Lumpur High Court today ruled that the dismissal of the former manager of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) for participating in political activities in 2016 was invalid and illegal. 

KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here today ruled that the dismissal of a former manager of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) for participating in political activities in 2016 was invalid and illegal.

Judge Datuk Ahmad Bache made the decision after allowing the suit filed by Y. Kohila, 48, as the plaintiff, against BNM who was named as the defendant, in 2018.

In May 2017, the plaintiff was given a show cause letter by BNM for supporting a political party and participating in a public rally organized by the party in 2016.

The court also allowed the woman's application to obtain a declaration that her dismissal was in breach of the employment contract and set April 29 to decide the assessment of damages and costs.

While reading his judgement, Ahmad said the plaintiff was not given the right to be heard which was a violation of natural justice during the internal inquiry and subsequent appeal process.

He said as a result of the unfair and unreasonable action, Kohila had suffered a loss.

The judge also explained that during the internal inquiry, the plaintiff's request to produce witnesses and be represented by his chosen lawyer was rejected while documents to prepare the case were also denied.

"The decision has put the plaintiff at a disadvantage and he cannot defend himself.

"He has also been given limited time to cross-examine the bank's witnesses," he said, adding that Kohila was also not allowed to testify and state his version.

The inquiry in May 2017 found Kohila guilty and the bank's Disciplinary Committee then decided to fire him, which Ahmad said was an unfair decision.

He also said the plaintiff was not called to appear before the committee to submit an appeal while the inquiry team and bank officials from the Human Resources Department were there.

"There was another violation of natural justice when he was unable to present an argument for appeal before the committee," he said.

In June 2017, the Disciplinary Committee decided to terminate the plaintiff's service on three counts of misconduct under the 2012 Code of Ethics.

Kohila, who filed the suit in 2018, is the Manager of BNM's Museum, Art Gallery and Science Management Centre.

Lawyers Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan, Gokul Radhakrishan, Sarah Ho and KS Bawani represented Kohila while Steven Thiru and Janice Teo appeared on behalf of the bank.

KUALA LUMPUR : An Israeli man was arrested by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) along with six pistols at a hotel in Jalan Ampang, last Wednesday.

Inspector General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the 36-year-old suspect entered the country using a fake French passport.

According to him, the initial investigation found that the suspect came to Malaysia on March 12 via the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) for a mission to kill another Israeli who was said to have family problems.


"The investigation also found that all the weapons were purchased as soon as he arrived in Malaysia with a crypto payment method.

"So far, the suspect has been remanded from March 28 to 31 to assist the investigation under Section 12 of the Passport Act 1966 and Section 7 of the Firearms Act (Heavier Penalty) 1971," he told reporters here today.

Razarudin added that all the weapons were found in the suspect's hotel room, including those placed in a bag, in addition to the investigation being carried out on the recipient of crypto money from the purchase of the weapon.

He said, he believed the suspect did not move alone but instead had a contact in this country.

"All these possibilities are still under investigation. Following the conflict between Hamas and Israel, the PDRM has also increased security for the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim; the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim and several other dignitaries," he said.

Sebelum ini, pihak-pihak perlu menunggu dalam tempoh 21 hari untuk mendapatkan tarikh sebutan di hadapan hakim selepas kes difailkan di mahkamah.

KUALA LUMPUR: Perkhidmatan laluan pantas atau 'fast track' Mahkamah Rendah Syariah Wilayah Persekutuan yang diperkenalkan pada 2021 berjaya menyelesaikan kes antaranya cerai dalam masa sehari.

Bagaimanapun Ketua Hakim Syarie Mahkamah Syariah Wilayah Persekutuan (MSWP) Mohd Asri Tahir berkata pihak-pihak perlu mempunyai persetujuan bersama sebelum kes berkenaan didaftarkan di kaunter Mahkamah Rendah Syariah Laluan Pantas.

"Kes itu kemudian akan didengar dan diadili oleh hakim yang dikhaskan untuk mengendali kes berkenaan di dewan Mahkamah Syariah Laluan Pantas dan mahkamah akan memberi perintah bertulis pada hari sama kes didaftarkan.

Terdapat lima kes iaitu tuntutan cerai, pengesahan lafaz cerai, permohonan pengesahan rujuk, permohonan wali hakim dan permohonan perintah bersaling atau pengendorsan perintah yang dikeluarkan oleh Mahkamah Syariah negeri lain, dikendalikan Mahkamah Syariah Laluan Pantas," katanya ketika dihubungi Bernama baru-baru ini.

Mohd Asri berkata sebelum perkhidmatan itu diperkenalkan, pihak-pihak perlu menunggu dalam tempoh 21 hari untuk mendapatkan tarikh sebutan di hadapan hakim selepas kes difailkan di mahkamah.

Pewujudan sistem itu katanya telah mengurangkan kes tertunggak, sekali gus meningkatkan kualiti perkhidmatan kepada pelanggan MSWP khususnya dan masyarakat Wilayah Persekutuan amnya.

Sehubungan itu, katanya perkhidmatan mahkamah laluan pantas telah diperluaskan ke Mahkamah Rendah Syariah Wilayah Persekutuan Putrajaya mulai 6 Mac lepas.

Menurutnya sebanyak 4,743 kes diselesaikan menerusi perkhidmatan laluan pantas itu dengan 797 kes atau 100 peratus selesai di dewan mahkamah berkenaan pada 2021; 1,660 kes atau 99.75 peratus selesai pada 2022 dan 2,286 kes atau 97.56 peratus selesai pada 2023.

Dalam memberikan perkhidmatan terbaik kepada masyarakat, beliau berkata selain dewan laluan pantas, MSWP juga mewujudkan dewan mahkamah khusus untuk pengendalian kes hadhanah, nafkah serta jenayah agar pengendalian kes menjadi lebih cekap.

Sementara itu, peguam Syarie Nur Hidayah A. Bakar berkata perkhidmatan itu dapat mengurangkan tempoh masa penyelesaian kes dan kos pihak-pihak untuk hadir ke mahkamah.

"Pelanggan saya gembira dengan perkhidmatan laluan pantas ini kerana kes mereka dapat diselesaikan dengan cepat dan mereka tidak perlu hadir ke mahkamah berulang kali untuk mendapatkan tarikh sebutan depan hakim," katanya.

Seorang pekerja swasta Siti Khadijah Abdullah, 45, berkata Mahkamah Syariah Laluan Pantas sangat memudahkan urusan pihak-pihak untuk kes perceraian.

"Saya memfailkan tuntutan perceraian di Mahkamah Syariah Laluan Pantas. Ia hanya mengambil masa beberapa jam untuk selesai," katanya.

XIAOMI yesterday officially launched their first electric car called Xiaomi SU7 for the Chinese market, thus allowing consumers in China to start buying the vehicle.

A total of three variations are offered, at prices starting at 215,900 Yuan, which is around RM141,500.

Xiaomi aims to start shipping to buyers from the end of April 2024. The Xiaomi SU7 comes in three variations of offerings.

The most basic model is offered at a price of 215,900 Yuan or around RM141,500 which offers a driving range of 700 kilometers.

This basic model car also offers a speed of up to 210km/h, as well as an acceleration of 400Nm. Complementing this vehicle is also the Xiaomi Pilot Pro ADAS which is a self-driving system powered by the NVIDIA Drive Orin chip.

The Xiaomi SU7 Pro model comes with a driving distance of 830 kilometers. While the Xiaomi SU7 Max comes with a driving distance of 800 kilometers but with a speed of 265km/h and is supported by the Xiaomi Pilot Max self-driving system.

With this introduction step, it will at once show Xiaomi starting to generate finance from products under the automotive category - further diversifying the income of the technology company.

For now, it is still unknown Xiaomi's plans regarding the offering of the vehicle outside of China

KUALA LUMPUR: Mahkamah Tinggi hari ini memerintahkan bekas Pengerusi FGV Holdings Berhad Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad dan bekas Presiden Kumpulan dan Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif Datuk Mohd Emir Mavani Abdullah membayar lebih RM3.31 juta kepada syarikat itu berhubung pembelian dua unit kondominium mewah di ibu negara.

Hakim Datuk Mohd Arief Emran Arifin membuat keputusan itu selepas membenarkan permohonan FGV terhadap Mohd Isa dan Mohd Emir Mavani pada 2018 untuk menuntut ganti rugi RM7.69 juta membabitkan pembelian kondominium di Troika, Persiaran KLCC yang didakwa melebihi harga pasaran.

Mahkamah berpendapat bahawa defendan secara salah menggunakan dan membaik pulih unit kerana ia tidak dilakukan mengikut prosedur syarikat.

"Mereka juga telah meletakkan kepentingan mereka dalam konflik dengan syarikat dan tidak bertindak demi kepentingan terbaik plaintif.

"Defendan kedua (Mohd Emir) juga telah melanggar tugasnya dengan menyalahgunakan sistem carpool dan kad petrol. Jadi, defendan harus bertanyggungjawab dan perlu membayar ganti rugi," katanya.

Hakim Mohd Arief bagaimanapun menjelaskan bahawa kedua-dua defendan tidak melanggar tugas dalam pembelian unit kerana ia dilakukan mengikut resolusi Lembaga.

Beliau berkata FGV tidak mengalami sebarang kerugian berhubung pembelian unit Troika kerana ia masih dimiliki oleh syarikat.

Mahkamah memerintahkan Mohd Isa membayar RM990,502 kepada FGV termasuk RM300,000 ganti rugi teladan dan RM200,000 sebagai kos manakala Mohd Emir membayar RM2, 322, 705 termasuk RM 500,000 sebagai ganti rugi teladan dan kos RM2,000.

Hakim Mohd Arief berkata ganti rugi teladan sedemikian dikenakan memandangkan kedudukan kedua-dua mereka dalam syarikat.

Keputusan itu dibuat menerusi prosiding yang dikendalikan secara aplikasi Zoom dengan dihadiri peguam Andrew Chiew Ean Vooi mewakili FGV, manakala Lavinia Kumaraendran dan Mavin Thillainathan mewakili Mohd Isa, Vincent Lawrance dan Abdul Rahim Abdul Rahim mewakili Mohd Emir.

PUTRAJAYA: The federal government has officially taken over the Penang Light Rail Transit (LRT) Mutiara Line project from the state government, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke (pix).

Loke said this followed the approval given by the Cabinet for the proposed development of the project on March 22.

“The government has officially decided to appoint MRT Corp, a company 100 per cent owned by the Minister of Finance Incorporated (MoF Inc), as the developer and asset owner.

“This project will be implemented through open tender while procurements will be divided into three main components,” he told a press conference here today.

He said the three components are the contract for civil construction works for Segment 1 covering the Silicon Valley to Komtar alignment, the contract for civil construction works for Segment 2 involving the Komtar to Penang Sentral alignment, and the turnkey contract for systems and rolling stocks works on a build-maintain-transfer (BMT) basis. -Bernama

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) believes that the senior police officer recently detained on suspicion of accepting bribes to protect illegal activities in Kuala Lumpur, was not acting alone.

In fact, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said there was a possibility that other more senior police officer might also been involved.

"It could be. We are looking into that area," he said when asked at a press conference here today.

Azam said the current focus of the investigation is on the amount of bribes received and who gave the bribes.

On Sunday (March 24), Bernama reported that MACC had arrested a senior police officer, in his 40s, on suspicion of taking bribes to protect people involved in gambling, vice and gangsterism activities in the capital since 2021.

The officer, based at the Kuala Lumpur Police Headquarters, was arrested after he turned up to give his statement at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.

MACC also found cash amounting to more than RM2 million when they searched several premises belonging to the senior officer.

Datuk Armizan mula ucapannya dengan mengatakan bagaimana terujanya melihat artis-artis yang datang untuk majlis iftar semalam, sebagai seorang yang daripada Sabah sebelum ini dia hanya melihat mereka di kaca tv sahaja. Dia juga mengenang kembali waktu kecilnya dimana lagu-lagu Uji Rashid dan Zaiton Sameon menjadi kegemaran dia dan maknya. Dia telah mengambil hati para hadirin, bila dia menyanyi beberapa rangkap lagu lagu Uji Rashid, Zaiton dan Farahdhiya.

Dia juga memberi jaminan, untuk mengkaji semula isu Royalti yang dibangkitkan. Dia berjanji kerajaan akan mengambil segala usaha untuk memastikan artis diberi ganjaran yang sewajarnya atas hasil kerja kreatif mereka.“Kerja dan bakat adalah aset artis kami dan sumber pendapatan mereka.

SHAH ALAM: Polis menahan seorang pembantu bengkel yang disyaki membakar mercun di tengah jalan raya, ketika perarakan pengebumian berdekatan sebuah pasar raya di Banting, Selangor, semalam.

Ketua Polis Daerah Kuala Langat Supt Ahmad Ridhwan Mohd Nor @ Saleh berkata lelaki berusia 28 tahun itu, ditahan kira-kira 3.30 petang di sekitar kawasan Banting dan hasil saringan air kencing mendapati dia positif dadah jenis amphetamine dan methamphetamine.

Beliau berkata lelaki terbabit mengambil bahagian dalam perarakan itu bersama beberapa penunggang motosikal lain, dan bertindak menahan kenderaan orang awam dan membakar mercun di jalan raya.

"Lelaki itu kini ditahan di lokap Balai Polis Banting untuk tindakan lanjut, dan semakan mendapati suspek mempunyai rekod lampau melibatkan kes jenayah dan narkotik," katanya dalam kenyataan di sini hari ini.

Ahmad Ridhwan berkata bahagian trafik Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah Kuala Langat juga telah mengeluarkan tiga saman terhadap suspek berkaitan kesalahan lalu lintas.

Beliau berkata kes disiasat mengikut Seksyen 8 Akta Bahan Letupan 1957 dan Seksyen 15(1)(a) Akta Dadah Berbahaya 1952.

"Polis kini giat mengesan dua lagi suspek dipercayai terlibat dalam kejadian itu yang tular di media sosial," katanya.

SEREMBAN: The government has approved a two-day toll-free period on April 8 and 9 for Class 1 private vehicle users on highways, coinciding with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, announced that the exemptions will be granted at all toll plazas except for those at the national borders, namely, the Sultan Iskandar Building Toll (BSI) and the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza in Johor.

He explained that the toll-free period will commence at 12.01 am on April 8 (Monday) and end at 11.59 pm on April 9 (Tuesday), with a compensation allocation of RM37.6 million.

“This decision was made during the Cabinet meeting on Feb 7, aimed at celebrating all citizens, especially the Islamic community, who celebrate Aidilfitri, and as a gesture of care and shared joy with all Malaysians.

“With this toll exemption, the number of vehicles is expected to increase by 2.46 million per day on all highway networks,“ he told reporters after inspecting the Seremban southbound rest and service area, here today.

Nanta encouraged motorists on the North-South highway (PLUS) to plan their journeys by adhering to the suggested Travel Time Advisory (TTA) schedule via the MyPLUS-TTA app.

The app enables travelers to choose the most suitable travel times based on entry and exit toll plazas, he explained.

“I also want to advise users that despite the laws and facilities in place to ensure safety, it still depends on us. We must be cautious and not rely entirely on the concessionaire companies,“ he said.

Nanta emphasised that in efforts to alleviate congestion during Aidilfitri, the Malaysian Highway Authority and concession companies will activate Smart Lanes at 18 strategic points along the PLUS Highway, aimed at increasing capacity and ensuring the seamless flow of traffic.

He noted that this includes three new locations compared to the 15 Smart Lane locations implemented during the Chinese New Year in February.

Clear signages for Smart Lane activation are installed at 500-metre intervals, with warning signs 200 metres before both commencement and conclusion as well as blinking indicator lights every 1 kilometre, he added.

“Furthermore, mobile Variable Message Sign (VMS) displays are deployed to inform users about the activation/termination of Smart Lane operations. It is only activated during peak hours to alleviate congestion,“ he said.

He reminded motorcyclists to exercise caution when using emergency lanes as they may not realise when the lane has been activated as a Smart Lane and other vehicles may be using the lane.

Nanta highlighted that to facilitate traffic flow, prevent congestion, and ensure smoother journeys, no lanes on the highway will be closed for maintenance work from April 1 to 17.

“However, maintenance work that does not involve lane closures can be carried out unless there is an emergency or accident necessitating lane closure. PLUS is providing 11 locations with Emergency Response Teams,“ he said.

KUALA LUMPUR: Empat empangan air di Johor, Pulau Pinang dan Kedah menunjukkan penurunan paras simpanan sumber air mentah pada paras kritikal setakat semalam susulan cuaca panas.

Agensi Pengurusan Bencana Negara (NADMA) memaklumkan empangan berkenaan ialah Empangan Sembrong Barat di Johor yang kini merekodkan paras 31.65 peratus; Empangan Air Itam di Pulau Pinang (35 peratus) dan Empangan BS Padang Saga (39.67 peratus) serta Empangan Malut (39.90 peratus) di Kedah.

NADMA yang memetik Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Air Negara (SPAN)dan Jabatan Pengairan dan Saliran (JPS) berkata stok simpanan air di Empangan Muda, Kedah pula berada pada paras amaran iaitu 41 peratus.

"Ttiga empangan lagi menunjukkan stok simpanan air berada pada paras waspada, iaitu Empangan Timah Tasoh di Perlis (56.25 peratus), Empangan Bekok di Johor (68.58 peratus) dan Empangan Teluk Bahang di Pulau Pinang (69.00 peratus)," menurut NADMA dalam laporan ringkas mengenai status cuaca panas pada Khamis.

Selain itu, katanya pada 25 Mac, JPS mengeluarkan hebahan ramalan kemarau bagi tiga lembangan sungai, iaitu Sungai Muda Kedah, Sungai Kelantan dan Sungai Melaka.

NADMA memaklumkan keadaan itu mungkin akan menyebabkan masalah gangguan bekalan air di daerah Sik, Kedah; Pasir Mas, Machang, Tanah Merah dan Kota Bharu (Kelantan) serta Alor Gajah (Melaka).

Mengenai status cuaca panas, NADMA berkata cuaca panas tahap 2 (gelombang haba) dicatatkan di Perlis pada 25 hingga 27 Mac; daerah Hulu Perak (Perak) pada 26 dan 27 Mac; daerah Kota Setar dan Pokok Sena (Kedah) pada 27 Mac; dan daerah Beaufort, Sabah pada 25 Mac.

Jabatan Meteorologi sebelum ini menyatakan fasa peralihan monsun dijangka bermula esok dan berterusan sehingga Mei yang menandakan berakhirnya Monsun Timur Laut 2023/24.

Permulaan fasa peralihan monsun, keadaan cuaca panas dan kering yang sedang berlaku di kebanyakan tempat di seluruh negara dijangka beransur pulih menjelang pertengahan April.

ISTANBUL: The number of victims of an attack at a concert hall in the Moscow region, Russia rose to 143 people, according to the country's Ministry of Civil Defense, Emergency Relief and Disaster Relief.

According to data from Russia's Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Civil Defense, Emergency Relief and Disaster Relief said late Wednesday that 143 people were listed as having died at 8.15pm local time, Anadolu Agency reported.

"The list will be adjusted based on forensic medical research data," he said.

Earlier, Russia's Investigative Committee told the country's TASS news agency that the federal investigative body had received 143 reports from victims about missing their relatives or loved ones during the attack.

SEREMBAN: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry today it is aware that there is an increase in the prices of foods sold at Ramadan bazaar in the country.




Its minister, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, nevertheless, believed that the rise in the prices of foods was not necessarily due to the increase in the prices of raw material since it is determined by the market.




"I do not deny that there is an increase in food prices. However, it is not right to say that the prices of all goods have gone up since it depends on the demand and supply factor.




"Before this, I have received report claiming that there were stall operators at a Ramadan bazaar selling karipap at RM3 per piece.




"However, checks on the ground showed otherwise when we found nine traders at Ramadan bazaar selling karipap at different price range, including at RM1 for three pieces," he told reporters after conducting a walkabout at the Negri Sembilan Ramadan Rahmah Bazaar at the Garden Homes (Site A) bazaar here today.




Armizan added that in such a case, it was up to the consumer to make the right choice by opting products or food sold are lower in price.




He added that the ministry also did deny that there were few Ramadan bazaar traders who try to take excessive profits by selling foods at unreasonably price range.




"I do not deny this (foods sold at high prices). There are indeed such cases and for those engaged in anti-profiteering, we will issue notices for them to explain their cost structure.




"At the same time, we welcome any complaints from the public and if possible, lodge the complaints through the channels provided before being sharing it on social media.




"When it goes viral, the relevant parties can hide the evidence and we have received reports from enforcement officers about this matter," he said.




Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Thursday called for an investigation to be carried out into reports suggesting there is an increase in food prices despite the drop in the prices of rice and poultry.




"I do not want to deny that there are cases of increase in food prices. I was told that food prices have increased although the price of rice is going down," Anwar was quoted as saying.




On a related matter, Armizan said a total 19,428 business premises were inspected throughout the country as of yesterday since March 12.




Of the total, 81 cases of various offences were detected from 566 reports lodged by consumers.




"The offences include failure to display price tags, not using certified scales as well as selling imitation items," he said.

KUALA LUMPUR: Umat Islam diajak agar memanfaatkan ruang yang ada untuk menekuni kupasan dan tafsir al-Quran, kata Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Beliau berkata umat Islam dituntut memperbanyakkan tilawah al-Quran pada tiap Ramadan bagi meningkatkan darjat dan pahala, namun ia tidak harus terhenti sekadar itu selain dituntut untuk bertadabbur (berusaha) memahami seruan dan gesaan Qurani yang sarat dengan mesej akhlak dan kemanusiaan sejagat.

"Bahkan memahami mesej al-Quran itu seharusnya lebih ditekankan kerana al-Quran itu hidup, berbicara dan menjadi suluhan dalam tiap kurun sejarah.

"Ibrah (pengajaran) yang terpancar dari firman Ilahi tidak dilorongkan khusus buat orang beriman, sebaliknya ia adalah petunjuk buat seluruh umat manusia (hudan linnas).

"Tiap mauduk (tajuk) perbahasan, tiap kisah dan riwayat, baik kisah pemuda al-Kahfi atau kisah Nabi Allah Yusuf AS, kesemuanya sarat dengan roh perjuangan dan iktibar yang mendalam. Menekuni tiap ayat bagai menggenggam cahaya obor yang menyoroti kejadian dan menerangi jalan ke hadapan," katanya dalam catatan di Facebook bersempena sambutan Nuzul al-Quran hari ini.

Anwar berkata penghayatan mesej hikmah al-Quran akan mendidik umat Islam menjadi insan yang bertaqwa, berakhlak mulia, adil dan sederhana dalam segenap perkara.

"Meski di akhirnya kita hanya berhasil meneguk setitis air dari lautan luas hikmah kebijaksanaan al-Quran, namun Allah SWT tidak pernah memberati hamba-Nya dan yang demikian itu cukup buat melunasi bahagian penting dari kehidupan kita sebagai manusia dalam bahtera kehidupan ini.

"Moga perdampingan kita dengan al-Quran menjadi penyuluh hidup di dunia dan pembelaan di akhirat kelak. Selamat memperingati peristiwa Nuzul al-Quran," katanya.

PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) will activate Smartlane routes at 18 critical locations along the highway to help dispel traffic congestion expected in conjunction with Aidilfitri.

The Managing Director of PLUS Malaysia Berhad, Datuk Nik Airina Nik Jaafar said, when SmartLane is activated, the existing leftmost lane was opened as an additional lane to optimize the use of all lanes and increase lane capacity to reduce traffic congestion on the highway's critical route.

According to her, PLUS has improved the SmartLane route to accommodate the increase in traffic during the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday.

"Among those improvements is the installation of flashing green lights to show that the SmartLane route is activated and it will only be activated during the day," she said.

"In addition, PLUS also added a reminder sign of the opening of SmartLane at the SmartLane location that has been identified," he said.

She said this at the Media Briefing on SmartLane Improvements & Operation Preparation of PLUS Highways Facing Increased Traffic in conjunction with Aidilfitri at Persada Plus here on Wednesday.

Also present were the Chief Operating Officer of PLUS Malaysia Berhad, Datuk Ir Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi, Chief Assistant Director of Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), Superintendent Khairul Azhar Ismail and Senior Director of JPJ Malaysia, Datuk Lokman Jamaan.

She explained that warning signs will be displayed one kilometer before the start of the Smartlane route and 200 meters before the end of the Smartlane.

"SmartLane can only be used by private vehicles, passengers for a while before being instructed to re-enter the main route to continue their journey.

However, highway users are strictly forbidden to drive in the emergency lane in other locations where no SmartLane route is activated," he said.

Meanwhile, Khairul Azhar said, any individual cannot stop vehicles using the emergency lane while Smartlane is activated.

"It is an offense to block other vehicles using Smartlane that has been activated and action will be taken if a report is made," he said.

KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri S A Vigneswaran has retained his position as MIC president for the third consecutive time after winning the post uncontested for the 2024-2027 term in the party's presidential election.

MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M Saravanan, who is also the chairman of the Presidential Election Committee, announced this after Vigneswaran emerged as the sole candidate for the position when nominations closed at 1 pm today.

Vigneswaran received support from 3014 out of 3060 MIC branches nationwide.

In the previous election, Vigneswaran also won the post uncontested.

"I thank all MIC members and branch leaders for supporting me to lead the party for the third time," he said after the nomination process at the MIC headquarters here.

On MIC's main focus moving forward, he said the party would concentrate on the construction of their new headquarters, which currently comprises three blocks.

"The new building will consist of three blocks, although initially we planned to develop only two blocks, and it will take four to five years to complete," he said.

"Of the three blocks, one will be allocated for the MIC headquarters, one for the Maju Institute of Educational Development (MIED), and the other for apartments and a hotel," he told reporters after the nomination session.

In addition, he said that the leadership of MIC for this term would also train and provide opportunities for young members to take up leadership roles in the future.

Vigneswaran added that MIC would also strengthen its cooperation with Parti Makkal Sakti Malaysia (Makkal Sakti), which has been established for a year now, in advocating for the rights and future direction of the Indian community in the country.

KUALA LUMPUR: A former director of SRC International Sdn Bhd reiterated at the High Court here today that his duty and role as a director at the company exist only in name.

Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi, 54, who is testifying in SRC International's US$1.18 billion civil suit against Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and its former chief executive officer Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil said, because of the absolute power and control exercised by the former prime minister, he was unable to perform his duty and role (as a director) in reality.

Shahrol Azral also refuted Najib's allegation that he is guilty of acts, omissions, wrongdoings, breaches of duties and conduct which constitute the effective and actual cause of any purported loss and damage claimed to be suffered by SRC.

"At the material time, I trusted Datuk Seri Najib and Nik Faisal when they informed me that SRC was established to carry out strategic investment for the interests of Malaysia.

"Bear in mind that Datuk Seri Najib was the then Prime Minister and Finance Minister. I was also informed that, for the purpose of such projects, SRC would require a lot of funds, hence, the need to apply to Retirement Fund Inc (KWAP) for a loan.

"After the loan was approved and disbursed by KWAP, Nik Faisal informed me that SRC was working on two big coal mine investments in Indonesia and Mongolia and it was necessary to remit the KWAP Loan as soon as possible in order not to miss out on good investment opportunities," he said in his witness statement.

Shahrol Azral, who was testifying as a third-party respondent in the suit said therefore, both Najib and Nik Faisal had made false and misleading representations to the SRC board of directors including him, regarding the true nature and purpose for the disbursements of the RM4 billion fund from KWAP loan.

"Furthermore, at the material time, there was no reasonable ground for me to suspect that anything dubious or questionable was going on in SRC.

"To the best of my recollection, I remember telling Nik Faisal in view of the colossal sums involved, the relevant investment projects which he mentioned should be carried out as soon as possible," he said.

Meanwhile, during cross-examination by Najib's counsel Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee, the witness also described Najib as having the style of a "grand chess master who moved things around on the board" when it comes to facilitating projects for SRC as well as 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

SRC, under its new management, filed the suit in May 2021, claiming that Najib had committed a breach of trust and power abuse, personally benefited from the company's funds, and misappropriated the said funds.

It is also seeking a court declaration that Najib is responsible for the company's losses due to his breach of duties and trust and for Najib to pay back the RM42 million in losses that they have suffered.

Najib, 70, has been serving a jail sentence at the Kajang Prison since Aug 23, 2022, after being convicted of misappropriating RM42 million in SRC International funds.

He then filed a petition for a royal pardon on Sept 2, 2022, and the Pardons Board on Jan 29 reduced Najib's jail term from 12 years to six, with the fine cut to RM50 million from RM210 million.

The trial before Judge Datuk Ahmad Fairuz Zainol Abidin continues on April 15.
