NEW DELHI: A court in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has blocked the screening of an Al Jazeera film titled "India....Who lit the Fuse?", which addresses the issue of anti-Islamic violence in the country.

A panel of judges at the Allahabad High Court on Wednesday ordered the Indian government and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to take steps to ensure the Arabic-language film is not broadcast unless its content is scrutinized by authorities, local media reported.

The court order followed a petition filed by a local activist who argued that the documentary could create racial divisions in the country.

"The film negatively portrays the political functions of the Indian State by showing them acting to the detriment of the interests of minorities," the petitioner's lawyer told the court, according to a Hindustan Times report.
