KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 18 -- Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the Pertubuhan Kebajikan Islam dan Dakwah Islamiah (Pekida) Malaysia must continue to uphold the principle of 'amar ma’ruf nahi mungkar' (enjoining good and preventing evil/wrongdoing) in organising community activities.
The Prime Minister said Pekida Malaysia needed to organise more community activities to highlight its image to the community and erase any negative perception towards the association.
As the largest Islamic non-governmental organisation (NGO), Ismail Sabri said Pekida Malaysia needed to strengthen the role of community service as well as reactivate neighborhood activities based on family spirit in an effort to strengthen the bond of friendship between its members and the community.
“Through community activities, Pekida is certainly able to play a role in strengthening unity in the Malaysian Family. An organisation will be stronger if all members are united like a family,” he said when launching the Pekida Malaysia General Assembly here tonight.
By upholding the principle of 'amar ma’ruf nahi mungkar', he said Pekida Malaysia can guide the Malaysian Family towards goodness and away from evil.
“This is because Pekida Malaysia has always been the focus of the community because it carries the image of Islam. Uphold the concept of amar ma’ruf nahi mungkar for the sake of the religion and the country,” he said.
Ismail Sabri said Pekida Malaysia is welcomed to help the government to revive the country's economy through the business circle network owned by the organisation.
“Through the membership of more than 350,000 people nationwide, entrepreneurial and business activities among members are also an advantage because you can supply products directly to customers without involving middlemen.
"Use the expertise available to help members, especially to attract young people in improving their skills in accordance with the latest technology such as the digital economy which has become so important now, especially during the pandemic era," he said.
To strengthen the administration of Pekida Malaysia, Ismail Sabri also announced a contribution of RM200,000 to the organisation.
Discussions with relevant ministries would also be held to help the NGO which are heavily involved in the retail industry and cooperatives, he added.
