JOHOR BAHRU, Feb 1 -- Johor police will have additional COVID-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance monitoring teams to bring the number to 500 to check on those ordered to undergo self-quarantine at home and also to check out the workers’ hostels, starting tomorrow.

State police chief, Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said strict monitoring was required following the surge in COVID-19 cases in Johor, particularly among foreign workers.

“We want to ensure that those who are supposed to stay home (quarantined), do so. We will ask for data from the Health Ministry for us to check on those ordered to undergo home quarantine,” he told reporters after making a surprise check on the workers’ hostels in Taman Air Biru, Pasir Gudang, near here, today.

Ayob Khan said before this, there were 241 SOP monitoring teams that were also joined by other agencies.

“We are increasing the teams to 500 from tomorrow, with each team comprising three members and headed by a police inspector to issue compounds to those who flout the SOP,” he added.

He also sad that police had sufficient manpower to do the monitoring including mobilising the car and motorcycle patrol units
