Two men, including RELA volunteer, nabbed for illegal firearms possession

KOTA BHARU, Dec 8 -- Kelantan police detained two men, including a People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA), member for illegal possession of firearms.
Kelantan police chief DCP Shafien Mamat said the two men were detained in their homes near a village in Jeli on Dec 6.
Based on initial investigations, the 41-year-old RELA member loaned his firearm and bullets to his friend, aged 45, for the purpose of hunting wild animals three months ago.
"The friend of the RELA member was detained after a police team raided a house in Kampung Jeli Dalam at around 8 pm and seized a Harrington shotgun with 68 live ammunition as well as 46 shell casings.
"Consequently, the police detained the RELA member at around 10.30 pm at his residence in Kg Layat, not far away from his friend’s house,” he said at a media conference at the Kelantan Police Contingent Headquarters here today.
Shafien added that both men would be remanded tonight till Dec 13 for further investigation under Section 8 of the Firearms Act (Increased Penalties) 1971.
