SINGAPORE, July 15 -- Singapore reported 249 new cases of COVID-19 infection in the last 24-hour with the vast majority still being the migrant workers residing at dormitories.

According to brief noon data released by the Ministry of Health (MOH) today, there were only 16 cases in the community.

In addition, the ministry said there were five imported cases involving those placed on Stay-Home Notice upon arrival in Singapore.

This brings the infection tally for the republic to 46,878 cases.

The ministry had yesterday reported an error made by a COVID-19 testing laboratory which had resulted in an erroneous reporting of a COVID-19 case as positive, when the result was in fact negative.

It involved case 45,655, a Secondary One student from Jurong West Secondary School who was asymptomatic and was reported as a confirmed case by the ministry on July 10.

In its full data released late yesterday, Singapore classified 618 of its cases as imported, 2,069 as community cases and 43,942 as dorm residents.

The statement said 3,704 patients who had symptoms or were clinically well but still tested positive for COVID-19 have been isolated and are being cared for at community facilities.

As of yesterday, 27 people had died from complications due to COVID-19 infection here.

One new cluster was identified yesterday, a dormitory at 96 Kaki Bukit Industrial Terrace.
