PETALING JAYA: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu)’s presidency will see a straight fight between Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir in the upcoming party polls.

According to the list of eligible candidates released at Bersatu’s website, a supposed three-cornered fight for the presidency did not take place as Mohd Faiz Azlee Sham, who was supposed to be in the running for the post, was not on the list.

Meanwhile, the deputy president post will also see a straight fight between Datuk Marzuki Yahya and Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

Anas Akashah Nazri, who was supposed to contest deputy presidency, isn’t on the list.

“Both of them (Anas and Mohd Faiz) didn’t fulfil the conditions provided in the party’s constitution,” Bersatu party election committee chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar told The Star briefly, without elaborating further.

For the three vice-president posts, a list of 18 names were up, including Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof, Tan Sri Ab Rashid Ab Rahman, Mohd Radzi Md Jidin, Datuk Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen, Adhif Syan Abdullah, Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee, Amiruddin Hamzah, Mazlan Bujang, and among others.

Meanwhile, Bersatu’s supreme council’s 20 positions will be contested by 164, a drop from 169 which was previously announced by Syed Hamid after nominations closed for the party polls last March 16.

The Bersatu’s youth (Armada) chief post will be contested by three - Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, Mohd Muzammil Ismail, and Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, who’s also the newly appointed deputy Youth and Sports Minister.

Bersatu’s Women (Srikandi) chief, on the other hand, will be contested by Azlina Mehtab Mohd Ishaq, Datin Izza Ismail, Zuhuraina Makmur, and Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun.

Previously, Syed Hamid said that the Bersatu polls and its annual general meeting will be postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said this was in line with directives issued by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) that all gatherings, meetings and AGM should be put on hold until June 30.

Syed Hamid said a new date for its polls and the annual general meeting will be determined by the Bersatu supreme council with the consent of the RoS.

Tun Mahathir sah Pengerusi Bersatu
HARIAN METRO
