PETALING JAYA: The national men's badminton team capped off a glorious day for Malaysia at the Asia Team Championships when they secured their place at the Thomas Cup Finals in Aarhus, Denmark in May by thrashing South Korea.

Malaysia, led by Lee Zii Jia (pic), were in their element as they defeated the Koreans 3-0 in the quarter-finals at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum on Friday (Feb 14).

Zii Jia led the way by outclassing Heo Kwang-hee 21-9,21-14 in the opening singles tie, before doubles ace Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik followed suit with an emphatic 21-19,21-14 victory over Choi Sol-gyu-Kim Won-ho.

Cheam June Wei proved he was just as capable despite going up against a more illustrious Son Wan-ho.

He stunned the 2017 World Championships bronze medallist 21-18,9-21,21-14 to seal Malaysia's qualification to the Thomas Cup by virtue of being the top four finishers this week.

Malaysia will face either Japan or Taiwan in the last four on Saturday (Feb 15).

Earlier in the day, the women's team had also qualified for the Uber Cup after triumphing 3-1 over Taiwan.
