PETALING JAYA: A 59-year-old woman from Wuhan is the latest to test positive for the novel coronavirus in Malaysia.

The Health Ministry in a statement today said the case which was reported to the Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) brings the total number of confirmed cases to 15.

The woman and her husband, 66, are now being treated at the isolation ward at Hospital Permai in Johor. However, her husband has not shown any symptoms.

The woman, her husband, her son and her daughter-in-law arrived in Johor on Jan 21. Before that, the family was in Singapore since Jan 17.

The ministry said the woman began to show symptoms on Jan 26. She tested positive for the virus on Feb 6.

She delayed her travel back to Guangzhou, China, from Johor Bahru. Her son and his wife, however, went back to China as scheduled on Feb 4.

The ministry added that she spent most of her time at her hotel.

She did not seek treatment at any healthcare facility and instead took the medicine her son had bought from a pharmacy.

Out of the 15 positive cases of coronavirus in Malaysia, seven are from the Patient Under Investigation (PUI) category, six are close-contact cases, and the other two were on the evacuation flight from Wuhan.

Eleven are China nationals and four are Malaysians.

From Jan 10 to Feb 7, PUI cases have increased to 313, whereby 198 are Malaysians and 107 are China nationals. The rest are one patient each from Australia, Korea, Jordan, Brazil, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Thailand.
