BEIJING: Malaysians stranded in Wuhan, the epicentre of the novel coronavirus outbreak, will be coming home soon.

Malaysian Ambassador to China, Raja Datuk Nushirwan Zainal Abidin, said on Saturday (Feb 1) they had received the green light from the Chinese authorities for the Malaysians' return.

A team of six embassy officers from various related ministries and agencies are now on their way to Wuhan now.

They have to drive over 1,100km to the city in Hubei province as all public transportation in and out of the area has been suspended.

The team is only expected to arrive only after midnight.

Nushirwan thanked the Chinese authorities for their understanding and cooperation.

The actual date for their return home has yet to be finalised.
