South Klang police smash syndicate offering fake investments, 22 held

PETALING JAYA: South Klang police crippled a syndicate believed to be offering fake investment options after arresting 22 people in a rented house.

Its OCPD Asst Comm Shamsul Amar Ramli said police from the South Klang Commercial Crimes Investigation Department raided a house in Ambang Botanic 2 on Thursday (Oct 31) at 6.30pm and arrested 15 Malaysians and seven Chinese nationals, aged between 18 and 36.

They also seized 69 mobile phones, 25 computers, two Internet routers and 25 mobile SIM cards.

Among those arrested was a 34-year-old Chinese national believed to be the syndicate's "supervisor".


"The syndicate's modus operandi was to search for foreign investors, particularly in China, to invest in companies determined by the head of the syndicate who is believed to be based in China," he said.

Police believed the syndicate had been operating for about a year and often moved their operations.


The syndicate had been operating at its last location for about four months before police shut them down.

He said the syndicate had used Malaysia as a call centre tasked to look for investors and placed an advertisement on Facebook to find locals, mainly Mandarin speakers, to work for them.

"The syndicate thought it would be cheaper to hire locals and pay them between RM1,500 and RM2,500 a month rather than bringing them from China where it would have cost them more," he said.

The 22 people arrested have been remanded until Saturday (Nov 2) and the case is being investigated for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

Police also advised the public to be careful with investment options and to report any suspicious forms of investments.
