PETALING JAYA: PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin (pic) has rebuked the party’s secretary-general for turning down calls for a reconciliation meeting between feuding factions.

In a quick retort to Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, she said the letters asking for a reconciliation were not addressed to him.

“The letters were addressed to PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and not to the unelected secretary-general, who holds the position on mere appointment, ” said Zuraida.

Therefore, she said, Saifuddin’s reply did not count.

Earlier, Saifuddin seemed to have turned down Zuraida’s request for both party factions to have a reconciliation meeting.

“No, no such thing as reconciliation. Just attend the political bureau meeting and central leadership meetings, and then everything can be settled, ” he told a press conference after an event in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

He was asked whether efforts to have a reconciliation meeting were still ongoing.

He reminded those who held party posts to fulfil their responsibilities, especially when it came to attending compulsory meetings.

“I want to say to those who hold party posts, either appointed or elected, that their respective posts come with responsibilities.

“I believe as the party’s president, Datuk Seri Anwar accepts all those who are qualified to hold party posts to attend meetings, either for the political bureau meeting every Wednesday night or the central leadership meeting held on the last Sunday of every month, ” he said.

“There is no excuse for missing the meetings as the schedule was given to party leaders early this year.”On Zuraida’s claim that she sent three letters to Anwar, Saifuddin said only one letter was sent, which was answered within seven days and delivered by hand.

On July 18, Zuraida openly admitted that there was a split in PKR and that it was up to the party president to mend the rift, which had widened with the sex video scandal dogging PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

She also claimed on Aug 28 that PKR had not responded to three of the letters on the matter.
