Two tonnes of durians among gastronomic delights at Dataran Merdeka Raya event on July 6

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Gastronomic delights, including two tonnes of durians, 50,000 sticks of satay and 70 roast goat, await everyone at the Federal Territory Islamic Department (Jawi) street Raya event in Dataran Merdeka on Saturday (July 6).
"Everybody is invited to enjoy the 6,000 packets of nasi lemak, Arab and briyani, 2,500 pieces of Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), 2,500 Pizza Hut pizzas, 1,000 Ayamas offerings, 200 roast chicken, mee curry, char kuey teow, roti canai, murtabak and much more.
"To ensure food is not wasted, there will also be a zero waste campaign,” Jawi director, Mohd Ajib Ismail, told Bernama Friday (July 5) about the celebration which will bring together 75 mosques and 10 surau from Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.
It is being organised in partnership with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), the Information Department (Japen), Islamic Development Department (Jakim), Federal Territories Ministry, Federal Territories Islamic Council (MAIWP) and Royal Malaysia Police.
"Street Raya is a platform to elevate the mosque as an institution through the introduction of mosque and surau programmes which have had an impact on the development of the ummah and society," he said.
Ajib said the four-hour programme will begin at 2pm and be officiated by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof. - Bernama
