PETALING JAYA: Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar confirmed that she has resigned as a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) member, apparently over the decision to retain Ronald Kiandee as its chairman.

The former PKR vice-president had tweeted earlier: “The chairperson of the PAC must be filled by the Opposition to pursue accountability of the Executive.

“The current Speaker has clearly outlined intent to institutionalise reforms – to ensure parliament is on equal footing to the Executive. Will remind him to do so for the PAC.”

Asked why she resigned, Nurul Izzah told FMT to refer to her tweet.

A week ago, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad gave the green light for Kiandee, the Beluran MP, to remain as PAC chairman after the former Sabah Umno leader joined PPBM.

Pakatan Harapan had pledged in its election manifesto to reserve the position for a member of the opposition to “restore the dignity” of Parliament.

However, PH chief whip Johari Abdul said he had yet to see the resignation letter from Nurul Izzah.

He said he had heard rumours that she wanted to resign from the committee.

“I am made to understand that she has a different view from that of the prime minister.

“She has her own principles on who should head the PAC. So she thinks that it (Kiandee remaining as PAC chairman) is unacceptable,” he said.
